This is an overview of the variables contained in MVATree, in the SingleTopRootAnalysis package. There are a few variables that are not the same across all of the trees (we look at the variables in the SgTop trees, PreTag and Tag versions), and for now these are put under Other Not for Signal Isolation Use. These variables are often different just by lepton type, so it may be that you will want to use them in a specific lepton channel analysis. In this case the branches in AnalysisMain will need to be reenabled.

The variables are listed here below. Explainations will be added eventually to all of them, although some are quite similar and in this case an example is explained. The name given is the name in the tree as of the Oct10v2 version of the ntuples.

Many of the variables share a common terminology:
  • UJet is an untagged jet
  • BJet is a b-tagged jet
  • LastJet is the jet in the event with the lowest Pt (in a 3 jet event, this would be Jet3)
  • Neutrino is an object with its Pz information reconstructed from information about the lepton and assuming the W mass.
  • BestJet is the jet that gives the invariant mass of W+BestJet closest to the expected top quark mass (we take this as 175 GeV)
  • TopJetXX is the reconstructed top using the lepton and neutrino in the event to reconstruct the W and some choice of jet (XX) for the b-quark
  • P refers to momentum, Pt refers to transverse momentum
  • e refers to energy, et refers to transverse energy
  • Lepton refers to the lepton in the event (muon or electron) with the highest pt.
    • The single-top group selects for exactly one muon or electron in the event, so Lepton is also the only muon or electron in the event for non-dilepton cutflows
