Laptops

You are encouraged to bring a laptop with you to MSU. Please be aware that laptop computers have been stolen from offices in our building, please use security precautions.

Connecting to the Network

Nearly 100% of the BPS building's public areas are covered by the MSUnet Wireless network (http://tech.msu.edu/wireless/). A large number of access point antennas are active in most areas to support large numbers of users at once. Most visitors' Internet connection needs can be satisfied by the wireless network.

If you have connection needs not satisfied by the wireless network, please contact your host or James Koll jk@msu.edu or phone extension 5569.

Using the MSUnet Wireless Guest Network

To connect to MSUnet Wireless network:
  • Select wireless network SSID "MSUnet Guest 2.0"
  • Try to load a webpage, for example http://www.nytimes.com/
    • Your browser will be redirected to the login page
    • Accept the Terms of Use and press "I Agree" button on webpage (no login ID is required)
    • Wait 10s for page reload
  • Test that you can now reach off campus computers, for instance http://www.nytimes.com/
While there is a per user bandwidth limit on the Guest wireless, typical usage such as email, web and web video should not be impacted. See http://tech.msu.edu/wireless/ for more information.

For details beyond the above, there is also HepGuestComputerInfo.
