Contacts

Please contact Brenda Wenzlick with questions about the video conferencing equipment.

The schedule for room 3239 is on the department web server.

Vidyo

See instructions at http://information-technology.web.cern.ch/services/fe/howto/users-use-h323sip-client-connect-vidyo-meeting. The three HD polycoms are all registered as rooms under the CERN Vidyo service. For the two MSU-based units, both audio and video work just fine.

To connect from a Polycom to a CERN meeting, connect to vidyogw.cern.ch (better from Europe) or cern-vidyo-gateway0.internet2.edu (better from the US).

You should also be able to call the room from within Vidyo by using the Vidyo room name from the table above.
Polycom Manual

The instruction manual for the HDX 8000 is available at http://support.polycom.com/global/documents/support/setup_maintenance/products/video/hdx_ag.pdf

Network Trouble

This is rare these days, but the campus network or MSU's link to the greater Internet does sometimes slow down or fail. If people are having trouble with slow web page loading etc., the IP video conferencing will be impaired as well. We can't fix this, though you can check for trouble messages at http://help.msu.edu/

Basic Polycom Info New HD Systems

We have two Polycom HD systems at MSU. One is mounted in 3239 and the second is on a mobile cart.

The HDX 8000 units support 4 way multipoint calls --- the local unit and up to 3 remote connections. There is a unit in 3239 BPS and an identical unit in the MSU office at CERN, room 32-2-B03.

Basic Polycom Info for Older Systems

We have three older Polycom systems, though these have not been used in a while.

Telephone connection to Polycom

You can connect to a vidyo meeting by phone and then connect the polycom to the same vidyo meeting. The vidyo access phone numbers are listed at http://information-technology.web.cern.ch/services/fe/howto/users-join-vidyo-meeting-phone.

Vidyo has apps for iphone, ipad, android, so you can connect from your smartphone to the MSU rooms even after the telephone gateway closes.

In order for Vidyo with video to work, "Basic Mode" must be disabled on the Network/Call Preference page in the admin settings.

Remote Connections

Remote users can establish a point-to-point connection using H323 or sip by calling the above IP numbers. Note that SIP was disabled on the MSU 3239 and CERN units in order to prevent connections from random network port scans.

Vidyo users can establish a Direct Call by calling the room name (cf. table above) from the vidyo interface ( vidyoportal.cern.ch).

The HDX 8000 units have builtin mulit-point meeting capability. Up to 3 remote connections are possible.
