SAMBA

SAMBA is an open source SMB protocol file server. Many clients such as MAC OS X and MS Windows can connect to SMB servers. SAMBA runs on ettin.pa.msu.edu to allow access to your home area files.

Setting Your Password

SAMBA uses its own password, which needs to be setup seperately from your login password. First time SAMBA users will need to contact the system administrator to create an initial password.

To change your password, logon to one of the cluster machines and do the following:

rockwell@hep# smbpasswd -r ettin.pa.msu.edu
Old SMB password:
New SMB password:
Retype new SMB password:
Password changed for user rockwell

Connecting

To connect to your home area, connect to the network location:

\\ettin.pa.msu.edu\username

where username is your username on the Linux cluster.
